Wedding Flashbacks - to March 2011!

This weekend last year I did the flowers for two weddings - two completely different venues and themes! But both really showing what Autumn flowers can offer!

Amanda and Luke, Balmain and Glebe, Friday

The first was Amanda and Luke's wedding on the Friday afternoon at Mort Bay Park in Balmain, and afterwards at the Boathouse in Glebe. I have to say, this one is still one of my favourite weddings I've worked on so far - I do love whites and pinks etc - but this was a REAL autumn wedding! Rusty oranges, reds, yellows and blues! Amanda just told me the colour scheme, and I went a bit crazy out at the markets, just grabbing anything that worked in with those colours! This is what I came up with....

Tegan and Sam, Bondi Beach, Saturday

Then on the Saturday, Tegan and Sam got married at Nick's Seafood at Bondi! Sam was keen to go with some Vietnamese Fighting Fish on the tables - so we thought we'd keep it simple, and equally bright! with lots of different coloured hyacincths, which are just coming into season now!

Tegan had a very simple bouquet of bouvardia, and her bridesmaids also went with some beautiful white bouquets.

And finally, we put a big garland of hydrangea on the cake! This tied in well with the girl's bouquets.

Enjoy! And happy anniversay guys!

Floreat Flower of the Month - Pink Bouvardia!

Happy Friday everyone! And welcome to the Floreat Flower of the Month - Pink Bouvardia!

Pink Bouvardia, is gorgeous, that's all I can say - I love it!

It is a pretty, feminine flower, it smells nice, and it lasts for ages!

Bouvardia was named after Charles Bouvard, who was the personal physician to King Louis XIII and the superintendent of the Royal Gardens in Paris. Interesting fact - I thought they were very Tres Francias :), and I LOVE the Luxemborg Gardens...

Bouvardia symbolises enthusiam, so is a good flower to give someone who is working hard towards a goal.

Bouvardia is also very pretty in white - some of you will know I use it a lot in weddings!!! This bouquet was a simple bouquet of white bouvardia - a very pretty, simple summer/autumn alternative to lily of the valley!

Enjoy everyone, and go out and buy yourself a bunch this weekend!

Nick and Corinda - Roberts, Hunter Valley - November 2011

I did the flowers for two very good friends Nick and Corinda in November last year, at Roberts in the Hunter Valley. It was the most beautiful wedding, the day was amazing, and Nick and Corinda looked fantastic - I'm still trying to convince them to put this in a magazine!

This is one of the best times on the calender for flowers in my mind - with white hydrangea, david austin roses, julia roses and peonies all just coming into the market!

Enjoy!

Floreat Flower of the Month - February!

They are synonomous with your Grandmother's garden, but Hydrangea has definitely made a comeback over recent years, and although summer is still strong (I hope!) autumn hydrangea is starting to hit the shelves at the Sydney Flower Markets!

Autumn hydrangea is that more rustic looking hydrangea, with more muted colours, with the beautiful vibrant colours turning green.

Although I love the bright pinks and blues of early summer, I really love these classic and rustic hydrangeas.

Other flowers starting to make their way to the markets are tulips, tuberose (which has a creamy flower and a beautiful perfume), freesias, and other flowers till going strong are roses, including iceberg and david austin roses, lavendar, water lilies, bouvardia, lotus pods, and of course dahlias!

Happy February everyone! And don't forget Valentine's Day this year! Contact me if you wish to send flowers to your valentine!
