Working in London with the King of Flowers!

A few months ago I was very lucky to have the opportunity to work with the crazy, talented and very successful London florist, Simon Lycett. If anyone has seen Flowers Uncut, he's like the UK version of Jeff Leatham!

Other than being a lovely person, Simon is an inspirational florist, having done his first wedding at age 7! Since then he's developed an amazing profile, working on amazing and huge jobs - even Posh and Beck's stunning (!) wedding! Simon is also one of the Royal Family's 2 preferred florists, and has worked on many events at Buck Palace etc.

Have a look at his website: www.simonlycett.co.uk

While working with Simon, I helped out on 2 events, which was an eye opening experience, as I really had no idea how much money some people spend on flowers, let alone how to bring it all together!

The first event was for a "Black night" at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. The Opera House has about 10 of these a year, where there are no scheduled performances, so patrons can hire the whole venue out for private functions. On this particular night, Mr Dorfmann (aka Travelex) hosted a 60th birthday party for his wife - private performance by the Royal Ballet, followed by dinner in the Conservatory listening to the dulcet tones of Diana Ross (live!)

The flowers were opulent and huge - no less than 15 florists working on this event, as well as 6 guys carrying everything!

The second event was a wedding for 500 at the Grosvenor, where they transferred one of Britain's most beautiful art deco ball rooms, to a purple extravagnanza!! No expense was spared, and let me tell you, money can not buy taste.

All in all, it was a great experience - I met some of Britain's best florists with years of experience - including one who helped put together Princess Kate's bouquet! One other florist who has worked on some of the biggest events in modern history interestingly said the biggest and best one she had ever worked on was Gretal Packer's wedding in the english countryside - apparently Kerry spared nothing for his little girl...

Enjoy the pics!

Beautiful Bouquets!

I hope you all had as good a weekend as I did - how amazing was the weather!

Speaking of amazing (even if I say so myself!) - thought I would post some pics of my favourite bouquets and other arrangements - these are a few bits and pieces I've put together for Mothers Day, Valentines Day, parties, or just a nice gift!! You might be fooled into thinking with all these other posts I only do weddings - but I love doing things like this too!

I love using luxurious flowers like this, and throwing in some herbs etc, to create something that looks great, but also smells amazing too!

Have a great week everyone!

Laura and Will's Engagement Party - that turned into a Wedding!

Welcome to my blog!!! I hope you enjoy it!!

There are plenty of other posts of my work so far for you to feast your eyes on if you wish, but to start off with, I wanted to make the first post you see a party (which was awesome fun!) and a beautiful day - where we all went with the intention to celebrate the engagement of our very good freinds Laura (Kitcho) and Will (Brucey) - only to find out on arrival they got married that morning!!!

It was also one of my favourite jobs so far, to be able to work in a beautiful garden in Bondi (care of Kitcho and Brucey's friend Crouchy), and create an "English Country Garden" to remind Kitcho of her home in Hampshire. Kitcho told me to go for my life - and I did! With lots of daisies, ranunculus (known as buttercups in England - reminds me of that awesome song!), lavendar, roses, jonquils, jasmine and blossom to name a few!

Kate and Eli, April 2011

Kate and Eli had the most beautiful wedding in April this year - the ceremony was held at the Great Synagogue in Sydney, and the reception was at Kate's parent's house in Lindfield - which was so much fun!

Here are some pics of the buttonholes and corsages I did - Kate designed it all herself and I think she did a better job than I would have done!

Allie and Alex's Winter Wonderland Wedding

Allie and Alex had a beautiful winter wedding above North Sydney Pool at Aqua Dining.

Lots of white flowers to create that winter wonderland feeling + amazing backdrop = BEAUTIFUL DAY!!!

Natalie and Luke - Watson's Bay, January 2011

When I got a last minute call from Natalie at Christmas 2010, saying she needed a daisy hair circlet and pretty bouquets for her Bridesmaids 2 weeks later, I jumped at the chance! I love daisies!

Natalie and Luke had a summer's day ceremony and reception at the Soldier's Mess Hall in Watson's Bay.

Natalie chose a different touch for her bouquet - 10 small posies of daisies which were passed to her by various members of the family as she walked down the aisle, to form one whole bouquet at the end.
